Summary

​

We are seeking a honed music industry A&R Music Publishing professional to lead and build an important division of a respected global music and entertainment company based in Los Angeles, CA.

 

This A&R Music Publishing Operational Executive will lead creative service(s) to the company roster that includes many A-list songwriters/producers. 

 

Manage publishing joint venture (JV) deals, and recruit/sign talented and creative U.S. songwriters/producers for youth-oriented demographics in the Pop genre.

 

This music executive will also help the artists signed to the company's record label and put together/hire/sign their own creatives, and, to a lesser extent, Japanese recording artists who are signed to Japan-based labels under the parent company umbrella. 90% United States / 10% Japan

 

This executive will work with administrative staff, internal/external counsel and others related to operations, business affairs, and contracts.  As well as their creative responsibilities.

This executive must have a balance of business and creative skills and experience to grow with the firm.

​

Compensation

​

  • Base starting salary of $100,000 to $120,000 with comprehensive benefits and incentives and vacation

Responsibilities

​

  • This Vice President of Publishing & A&R shall lead the creative A&R role to the writers signed to the company which includes multi-Grammy-winning producers/songwriters.

  • Strategize, plan, and coordinate songwriting sessions targeting other top U.S. artists, music company and your own label and artists as well as your own Japanese artists inside and outside of the beautiful creative & innovation facility you own in West Hollywood. 

  • 90% U.S. / 10% Japan

  • Pitch songs written by signed writers to major artists/labels in the US to secure placements

  • Manage publishing (JV) joint venture deals with reputable companies/majors in the music industry

  • Sign your own songwriters/producers who can cut through the norms of the music industry to make unique music

  • Constantly source demos from third party writers and publishers for company artists with an ear for new sounds

  • Collaborate with Publishing Administrative Staff to manage the division together and maintain a productive and positive work environment.

  • Conduct business practices that are innovative with a keen awareness of new culture, new ideas and new music technology in the youthful sectors of the music industry.

  • This creative music publishing environment is for a highly organized music publishing executive with a strong attention to detail who is seeking career growth and stability.

Skills & Experience Required

​

  • A minimum of 5 years+ of current, relevant music publishing leadership / A&R leadership identifying/managing exceptional writers for Pop, Dance & Urban genres, and placing for top hit songs

  • Must have extensive access to talented writers & producers & artists in the current POP music scene

  • A history of setting trends in the music industry within youthful pop markets

  • Flexible work style to be able to perform in a nimble and flat organization that is responsive

  • Broad music publishing business and operational acumen with the leadership skills to build a growing label/publishing company at a smart pace with maturity and patience

  • A reputation in the industry that will attract other talented music executives, creatives, producers, artists and writers in the Pop genre.

  • Any acumen within Japanese markets is desired but not required

  • The ability to evangelize the company and the leadership role and capabilities it provides to the music industry as an innovator, creative facilitator and technological maverick.

  • Maturity to work with noted artists and their management as well as external legal counsel and internal legal departments.

  • A good sense of royalty, copyrights, sync law and deals to compliment your broad business acumen of music publishing as a whole.

  • Reporting capabilities to keep senior management accurately informed of current and future business developments.  This position reports directly to the President of U.S. Operations.

  • This executive must be hands-on and lead by example. Player, player/coach capabilities will be essential.

  • Should be well rounded with strong business skills, music industry acumen, creative sensibilities, music publishing experience and intimate writing/writer relationships to be successful

  • This executive and their reputation should be one that attracts talented writers and producers and builds relationships with a history of music industry success and trust

  • This executive should enjoy functioning as part of a respected team.  That team spirit has been a core component of a corporate and creative culture that has been a proven catalyst to success.

  • A keen understanding of collaboration in international music markets with an emphasis on the U.S.
