Summary

Leading media and entertainment conglomerate with extensive network broadcast & production facilities is seeking a hands-on leader to manage the many products and services offered to internal and external clients.

 

Providing sophisticated production services for a diverse roster of content production, this position reports into a noted Vice President and SVP who promoted and relocated the previous Director. This executive will travel to various production facilities in New York City, and surrounding areas as required.

 

Duties

  • Manage (4) four direct reports in production, technology, facilities and creative services as well as an EA.

  • Maintain and create a go-to environment that promotes the ease of utilizing a broad spectrum of production and origination services

  • Work with internal and external executives, producers, talent and vendors.

  • Work with devise production needs and personnel:

    • Live and Taped

    • News, Sports, Scripted Series, Independent Producers, Advertising Agencies, Reality, Game Show, Specials and more.

    • Meet with clients and ascertain their needs

    • Create and provide production technology at times that will be new and innovative requiring internal and external vendors to play key roles.

    • Work closely with other Directors in production, marketing, BO&E, creative services, facilities and those selling to external clients

  • Keep abreast of industry trends, attend conferences and represent the company at industry events as part of the team

  • Work in partnership with human resources for employee evaluations, job descriptions, training, hiring, employee award recognition and annual internship program, and safety initiatives.

  • Participate with the Vice President, CFO and CTO at the annual production budget conference where new technology is reviewed for the budget.

  • At all times, keep the production facilities and services at the forefront of the industry by having close relations with your current vendors and new vendors who offer advanced technologies and services that can be marketed to the production community.

  • Maintain a positive culture for employees and “clients”.  This is an excellent work environment and people enjoy coming to work.  There is very low turnover and the VP and SVP want an executive who understands what it is to mentor and develop employees in a fair, professional and intelligent manner.

 

Skills and Experience Required

  • A minimum of 10 years of related increased management responsibilities and experience in the broadcasting industry

  • Proven ability to be a Player-Coach in a world-class 24/7 production facility that hosts a broad spectrum of News, Sports, Motion Picture, Political and other VIP's who have very high broadcast and production expectations.  

  • Broad acumen with current and future technologies, production, facilities and creative services associated with industry-leading production values.

  • Experience representing and speaking on behalf of an organization's technology and production capabilities to internal and external interests.

  • The capacity to convey technical issues to non-technologists

  • Solid experience awarding contracts and assisting in compiling RFP’s to get the best value for advanced technologies from vetted vendors.

  • The ability to work with highly creative employees, talent, producers and others who will depend on you and your staff on a daily basis.

  • Experience maintaining and or creating a positive work environment that has deadlines and timeliness that can be stressful at times for live national TV broadcasts. 

  • During major sporting events, award shows, elections, national emergencies the ability to direct staff in studio(s) and remote/trucks. Attend events like NAB on behalf of the company in a professional manner at all times

  • Strong knowledge of key BO&E technologies that the studios are dependent on as well as the redundancies required in the industry and those licensed by the FCC

  • The ability to sit with an Executive Producer, Chief Engineer, Sound, Lighting to map out the production requirements for a show, series or live event.

  • Equal acumen with audio and video when new rooms are hung to avoid changes once new sets are installed. Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Set Designers etc.

  • A person who can sit with a major advertising agency, sports league or head of programming to assure them that regular Network programming will not interfere with their needs and that the high production standards they expect will always be maintained for their studio space(s) and transmission needs.

  • Experience in a facility with multiple 24/7 edit suites that work in real-time with remote locations globally. 

  • Exposure to RF, Fiber, Satellite C/Ku and their redundancies to direct engineers and network operations as required  

  • Related Degree(s) and Certification(s) Desired
