Top 10 rated multichannel, multiplex TV Network(s) in their genre in the United States is seeking an experienced online advertising, National Director of Advertising Sales to join their respected advertising sales team in New York City.  The primary focus of this role, reporting to the Vice President of Sales is to manage a team of honed national account executives and also work directly with advertising agencies and direct advertisers to close deals and generate revenue for the most profitable Digital Advertising Group of the TV Network(s). It is a classic player-coach role.


This National Director of Digital Advertising Sales will also work closely with the Vice President of Digital Ad Sales and other members of the TV Network sales team to strategize on building overall digital revenue for the TV and Digital Networks.  The Digital Director of Sales will be based in New York City in the firm's executive offices. 




to $250,000 base with equal or greater commissions and bonus structures that reward success to $480,000 the first year on budget prior to benefits below.  Additional non-capped compensation above budget.

Duties and Responsibilities


The Director of Digital Advertising Sales plays a very important role within the Network(s) digital advertising sales team and is responsible for managing key relationships with agencies and clients who are large national advertisers.  The National Director of online advertising sales must be a client-focused seller who has proven experience in national online/digital media advertising sales as well as a honed manager of digital sales professionals and their required support structures.  This person must feel comfortable in the boardroom of a Fortune 50 meeting with a CMO or being in a highly creative environment in a Digital focused media department of a major advertising agency. 


This New York City based Director of East Coast online advertising sales will work closely with national sales personnel to create and present opportunities for cross-platform online and (at times) on-air advertising to agencies and clients.  S/he will also identify prospective advertisers to bring to the Network(s) who enjoy national cross-platform advertising campaigns. 


This Director of Online Advertising Sales must be able to create, develop and execute sales strategies and proposals as an individual and as a leader of professional national digital advertising sales executives in a major media and entertainment company. 


Specifically, the New York City Director of National Digital Advertising Sales will:


  • Nurture and grow the network’s digital sales efforts and East Coast team with targeted clients who are national advertisers.

  • Structure deals and develop strong business relationships with direct advertisers and their agencies

  • Enhance revenue through direct sales to national advertisers and advertising agencies by selling creatively and keeping abreast of TV Network and Digital content that coincides with their ideal target demographic(s). 

  • Create and/or identify convergent opportunities with advertisers that capitalize on the interactive properties and the TV Network's capacity to attract a desirable demographic based on their TV series, music, entertainment, tentpole programming  and information dominance.  This is the number 1# rated property in their genre in the U.S.  

  • Sell across all digital, lifestyle, music and entertainment platforms and hone your staff's ability to do so also.

  • Create sales presentations with your ideation team for key, target categories and accounts that will enhance the team's ability to close business.

  • Generate digital ad sales revenue that meets or exceeds budget on a quarterly and yearly basis.

  • Effectively collaborate with multiple departments in order to achieve network objectives and optimize revenue through strategic and creative means.

  • Continually identify, define, and quantify both existing and new revenue opportunities that are cutting edge in the media and entertainment industry.

  • Prepare reports for management so they can be aware of new business and existing business development for the East Cost team

  • Attend the weekly internal TV Network and Cross-Platform sales meeting.


Digital Advertising Sales Skills & Experience Required


The Director of East Coast National Digital Advertising Sales will be an experienced, driven and innovative national interactive sales professional who can mentor and develop other national sales professionals.


Experience being part of a collaborative sales team helping to grow overall digital revenues.  They must have national interactive advertising experience and existing relationships with the appropriate agency/media buying community. 


In addition, all candidates should possess the following:   


  • A minimum of 5-10+ years of digital advertising sales experience managing a list of national accounts and national sales staff.

  • Experience working with other media platforms synergistically (Network TV, Cable TV, Radio, Mobile and or Print) and Digital is required.

  • Proven capacity to enhance revenue through consultative selling skills and to teach this skill to others

  • Strong communication skills to present to major advertising agencies and clients and develop collaterals / ideation for the team that reflect a professional presentation to major advertisers.

  • Strong relationships with agencies and clients that allow the presentation of special events, integrated advertising opportunities and digital sales opportunities.

  • The ability to structure deals and develop strong client relationships as part of one the nation’s leading cable TV networks serving a loyal and devoted viewing audience and to teach these skills to others.

  • Experience working as part of an advertising sales organization and growing your own business and that of the team.

  • Strong analytical ability for strategic sales development, including interpretation of media research and analysis for effective use of analytics as sales tools.

  • Superior communications skills; the ability to keep all parties informed and aware of key issues surrounding this role. 

  • Ability to get along and work productively with all colleague in sales, marketing, research, programming and creative brand solutions in the Digital and TV Network sales groups.

  • A track record of successfully increasing digital ad sales revenues.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and aggressive attitude towards exceeding goals.

  • A confident, tenacious, diplomatic, and collaborative style.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment. 

  • Extremely goal oriented with the ability to be organized and prioritize.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

  • As the Director of East Coast sales, the ability to work with your peers in on the West Coast and Midwest sales teams, when required.
